Odin (Óðinn), the Norse God who sacrificed an eye for wisdom relied upon two ravens; Huginn and Muninn, who traversed the world daily and returned to report what they’d discovered.

Their names mean ‘thought’ and ‘memory’ (or mind). Through his raven messengers, Odin was kept informed of all that happened in the entire world, known as Miðgarð.

Ravens are an iconic and magical creature in the Viking world. It is a powerful representation of war and is believed to be the eyes and ears of the chief Viking god, Odin.
